THE BRIEF

One of the most important roles of Design is to create an identity and a clear product aesthetic that reflects and amplifies the character of the brand. As designers, we create identity and desire. We create value by creating newness, emotional story-driven products that, like our old 501ā€™s, become coveted collectorsā€™ items of the future.

The concept behind Leviā€™sĀ® Made & CraftedĀ® builds on the legacy of the Leviā€™s brand, its authenticity, its soul, and project that into the future using todayā€™s best materials and construction techniques. Quality and thoughtfulness is whatā€™s luxury today. Itā€™s the special things beyond just the price tag.

Made & Crafted also formed the basis of a collaboration between Made & Crafted and Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh for a new Fall/Winter 2016 collection, which debuted on the Paris catwalks earlier this year, and again for his 2017 Resort collection this June. It went so well that Virgil came back to our Eureka Innovation Lab and our Made & Crafted team, to design a special 100-piece limited edition ā€œMade-in-Eureka Leviā€™s Made & Crafted x Off-Whiteā€ collection.

Write a manifesto. We want to see what your Made & Crafted stands for. How do you take what Made & Crafted looks like today and push it into the future? What makes it different and yet undisputedly Leviā€™sĀ®? How would you describe it to a friend?

Create the future of your Made & CraftedĀ® world.

Making & Unmaking: An exhibition curated by Duro Olowu

19 June – 18 September 2016 at The Camden Arts Centre

Mark-Blower-160620-Making-and-Unmaking-Camden-Arts-Centre-00682_500_333_s_c1

Making & Unmaking, curated by Duro Olowu (b.ā€‰1965, Lagos), is the latest in our series of artist-selected shows. Duro Olowu is a celebrated fashion designer whose bold innovations with pattern, colour and shape reveal his early influences living between Nigeria and Europe, and his ongoing fascination with the world. His fluency with diverse aesthetics can be seen in the clothes he makes as well as the exhibitions he has curated, which combine antique textiles with his own fabric designs, bringing together discordant colours and patterns alongside disparate cultural forms.

Filling all three galleries, the Central Space, Reading Room and Garden, this exhibition draws together over 70 artists from aroundĀ the world spanning this century and the last, including 19th century textiles made by unknown hands. Individually, each workĀ has a story to tell; collectively, they beginĀ a conversation in which visual, narrativeĀ and thematic relationships unfold. This eclectic collage of works, some of which have strong political undercurrents, addresses issues surrounding cultural identity, sexuality and the representation of the body. Olowuā€™s exhibition invites a multifaceted journey of encounters with the intuition, skill and visionĀ of the artists represented within it.
