Congratulations to all the students that took part – each and every design graduate had some interest from various companies, from agents to job opportunities to designing their own range for brand(s). We wish you all farewell and good luck for the future. Keep in touch and be sure to let us know who and what opportunities and paths you decide to choose.
Last night was our Free Range Fashion show in London, where we presented our creative and professional graduates. Most of them have already worked in the industry, with prestigious companies like Alexander McQueen and Marchesca to independents like Rocksanda Ilincic and Sibling. Some have secured MA offers from the RCA as well as employment upon graduation.
Awards were given to Knitwear Design student: Alex Pengelly and Fashion Design Student: Arati Labung.
Role: The student will get to work in a busy fashion studio and will understand what it takes to make a collection and how each department functions. The student will be involved in sourcing trims fabrics, going to factories, press office, helping each department, helping in making packs to be sent to factories, checking and labeling grades and other day to day errands in a busy studio.
Vintage shop Beyond Retro will run a student week with exclusive student sale nights, presentations from their team of experts and open-days to the Beyond Retro design archive.
Students can gain insight into the fashion world with a talk from the shop’s visual merchandising team. Following his recent presentation for the V&A’s “Fashion Festival” in December, Head of Visual Merchandising Kristofj von Strass will discuss window and mannequin dressing, visual merchandising as well as discussing his career in fashion photography. He will be joined by Soho’s visual merchandiser, Ida Jacobsen, who is a keen vintage enthusiast, collector and musician in her own right.
The talk will be held at Beyond Retro Soho at 9am Wednesday 23rd 2013. The talk will last 30 mins and is free of charge, although we advise emailing RSVP@beyondretro.com to book due to space limitations. Complimentary breakfast from the Beyond Retro café will also be served. Following this, students can grab some bargains at Beyond Retro’s bi-annual Student Sale Night with selected items at an amazing 50% off and complimentary drinks.
The week will conclude with an exclusive invitation to view the Beyond Retro Design Archive. With over 10,000 swatch and garment pieces on site, you can have a sneak peak of specialist vintage garments that are normally reserved for the eyes of the world’s leading fashion houses and designers. Be inspired by an array of beautiful historical prints, intricate design techniques and the most beautiful vintage pieces.
The showroom will be open for two-hour slots on Tuesday 29th January 2013 at 11-1pm and 3-5pm. Students will be shown the collection by Beyond Retro’s archive manager. Please email email@example.com to book spaces. The Design Archive is located at Beyond Retro Head Offices, 23-28 Penn Street, N1 5DL.
