Job Description

As a result of continued growth at Roland Mouret and the development of the knitwear category within our collection, we are looking for an experienced, passionate, innovative and dedicated knitwear designer to join our team and work alongside the Creative Director and Knitwear Product Developer to produce an exciting and commercial knitwear collection.

We want to hear from someone with a real passion for knitwear who can push the boundaries and excite us with their designs while appreciating the Roland Mouret brand aesthetic.

Main duties will include:

  • Ensure that the company brief for the brand is adhered to
  • Plan the range
  • Produce initial trend, range and pack concepts and colour boards
  • Produce key shapes for each product category
  • Working with the Knitwear Developer, source and match all trimmings, button linings etc. for initial samples.
  • Review initial samples with the Creative Director and Collection Development team to assess styling issues prior to fitting.
  • Communicate design ideas in a confident and enthusiastic manner.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with the following skills/attributes/experience:

  • Creative flair and innovation and a proactive approach to design.
  • Commercial industry experience required since graduating, ideally with a luxury brand(s).
  • Able to identify key trends, and interpret these in a relevant and commercial way for the customer.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced fashion environment.
  • Excellent understanding of garment construction and in particular knitwear manufacturing methods.
  • Able to work on their own – take initiative.
  • Communication, interpersonal and influencing skills at all level.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines is essential
  • Target driven with a passion for fashion and the confidence to grow and develop.
  • Ability to produce technical sheets for manufacturing products.
  • Flexible with working hours including overtime and travel.
  • Strong CAD skills and Illustrator experience
  • Creative and innovative with confidence to present ideas to others
  • Good presentation skills
  • Digital approach to working processes

Print Design Assistant – The Role
Research, develop and interpret print trends and ideas in-line with the brand DNA. Ensuring we are constantly developing our print offer to meet our customer’s needs
Create original print designs using various hand painting and drawing techniques
Utilise CAD programmes to assist in preparing artworks for production, putting designs in repeats and placements
Generate CAD garment range boards in line with business requirements
Creating trend packs, mood and colour boards, re-colouring artworks
Support and work closely with the Design team on design administration tasks, ensuring successful results in all design aspects of the product journey

Print Design Assistant – The Candidate
You will be a talented Print Designer/Painter/Textile Artist/Illustrator with a feminine handwriting and a natural leaning towards floral design
A strong understanding of colour and able to demonstrate strong hand painting and drawing skills and technique with attention to detail
Good CAD skills in Adobe Photoshop essential and knowledge of Microsoft office programmes desirable (Powerpoint/Word/Office 365)
Understanding of creating repeat patterns and placements for garments
Garment & pattern cutting knowledge would be a great advantage
A good communicator in both written and verbal skills
Ability to be flexible and work with all members of the team on the creative journey, embracing the business core values
A professional, can-do attitude with a common sense approach to problem solving is essential
Good organisational and time management skills

Paid Textile Design Internship

Derek Rose Ltd are a luxury brand based on Baker Street, London specialising in nightwear, underwear and loungewear. All of our textiles are designed in-house including repeat print, jacquards and yarn dyed stripes and checks. This is an exciting opportunity for a Textiles graduate looking to gain industry experience.

You will be a part of a small team working directly with the internal designers contributing to the development of the SS17 collection and supporting the general running of the design office.

This internship is full time and will last six months to start end of July finishing end of January.

The ideal candidate:

  • Textiles (BA) hons degree
  • Interest and knowledge of designing prints and yarn dyed stripes and checks
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Interest in textile design for both men’s and womenswear
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • An excellent understanding of working in a fashion environment and of the design process
  • Be proactive and able to work independently on your own initiative

Duties to include:

  • Assisting the designers to design print, jacquards and yarn dyed stripes and checks
  • Creating design tech sheets
  • Using Adobe Creative Suite to bring concepts to design
  • Assisting with administrative tasks including archiving fabrics, filing, answering calls, maintaining showroom, updating design boards and other day to day tasks
  • Researching new trends, creating mood boards and colour research
  • Producing marketing materials using Adobe InDesign

Humphries Weaving is a leading British manufacturer of custom Jacquard fabrics, gaining an international reputation in weaving fine furnishings.

With a varied portfolio of works they undertake client led projects for prestigious historical restorations, alongside the high end decorator market. They are looking to recruit a Trainee Sales and Design Assistant to join their team.

Essential skills and experience
• A degree in woven textile design or relevant experience
• Professional attitude with a good telephone manner
• Confident communicator, both with clients and colleagues
• Ability to work with existing clients whilst seeking out new sales possibilities
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite
• A full driving license
Desired skills
• A naturally creative person with sensitivity to colour and texture and an eye for detail
• A keen interest in historic textiles and/or the decorative arts
• Ability to draw by hand
• Experience in using CAD software with graphics pad
• Confident use of DSLR and photo editing
• An organised individual who can prioritise their own workload
• Experience of WordPress and social media or a willingness to learn
• Relevant industry experience would be an advantage
Key duties and responsibilities
• General office based duties
• Providing support for other team members
• Maintenance of our website and implementing social media strategy
• Assisting with order processing, including liaising with different departments within the company
• Carrying out design work; hand drawing and using our CAD system
• Interacting during face to face client meetings

Hours of work: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours)

Two Textile Designer Posts at Stephen Walters & Sons Ltd

Stephen Walters are silk weavers designing and producing fabric for international luxury brands. They have built their reputation as design leaders working exclusively with fashion houses across the world.

They are recruiting for the following two positions to join their highly regarded design team:

  • Textile Designer to work within their technical design team producing designs using their jacquard software.
  • Textile Designer to work within their creative design team producing CAD representations of their jacquard designs.

The design work is extremely varied and covers a broad range of fabrics from men’s neckwear to contemporary womenswear and furnishings.

They are looking for two designers with good artistic ability and drawing skills, a sensitivity to colour, a diversity of styles and attention to detail. An understanding of CAD systems would be beneficial but not essential, as full training will be given to the successful applicant.

Their design team is currently made up of trained designers from a variety of disciplines such as print, surface pattern and weave. They would like to hear from anyone who is qualified in similar areas.
