Stephen Walters are silk weavers designing and producing fabric for international luxury brands. They have built their reputation as design leaders working exclusively with fashion houses across the world. They are recruiting for the following position to join our highly regarded design team:

Entry Level Textile Designer to work within their creative design team producing CAD representations of their jacquard designs.

The design work is extremely varied and covers a broad range of fabrics from men’s neckwear to contemporary womenswear and furnishings.

They are looking for a designer with good artistic ability and drawing skills, a sensitivity to colour, a diversity of styles and attention to detail. An understanding of CAD systems would be beneficial but not essential, as full training will be given to the successful applicant.

Their design team is currently made up of trained designers from a variety of disciplines such as print, surface pattern and weave. They would like to hear from anyone who is qualified in similar areas.

Hours of work: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours)
Location: Sudbury, Suffolk

Knitwear Internship at Julien Macdonald

Julien Macdonald is a luxury women’s fashion brand famous for its red carpet dressing.

We are currently looking to fill knit internship positions for the S/S 16 show in February. We are looking for students with excellent knitting skills. You should have previous experience using domestic knitting machines; fully fashioning garments and be very competent and confident with a wide variety of stitches.

Knitwear Designer Role at Sophie Steller

Sophie Steller is a Creative Knitwear Design Studio based in Twickenham, working directly for clients plus their own sweater swatch collection sold to Womenswear retailers.

Main duties:

We are seeking a full time knitwear graduate with proven experience of working in a knit studio (gained either as placement or post graduation).

The candidate should be a keen knitter, preferably with a strong sense of colour and full understanding of directional fashion trends. The role will not only be knitting but also include sketching, creating tech packs, international travel to shows and factories as well as training on our new Shima Seiki software and machinery. Ideally applicants must have had experience at some point in working for swatch studios in the past and are able to work in a fast paced environment.

The successful candidate will have a degree in woven textile design or have relevant experience in the field. A proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite is desired to carry out office based administration duties. Fashion Student Sophie Lever tells of her internship at By Walid

Sophie Lever, a Fashion Design student about to go into her 2nd year at WSA, has spent her summer interning at fashion label By Walid. Recent press in Mr Porter about By Walid mentions WSA as part of the intern team.

Sophie Lever describes her experience; “I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to carry out a month’s internship at By Walid in London during the summer. This internship was extremely beneficial, and I learnt so much during my time there. Some of the tasks that I carried out included copying patterns that were then sent to the factory for manufacturing, and undertaking quality control on the garments. I also completed hours of hand sewing and finishing ready for shipping.”

“By Walid’s garments are all made from beautiful recycled antique fabrics that can be extremely delicate, and therefore much care and attention is needed to ensure that they were suitable to be sent off to clients. It really opened my eyes as to how much work is put into each one-of-a-kind piece, I would often spend two full days working on the finishing of just one coat! However, the amount of care and time that went into each garment really showed and I think that is the key to the brands success.”

Paid Creative Direction Internship at WGSN

WGSN is a global fashion and design forecasting company. Operating as a subscription-based website and trend consultancy, WGSN is internationally renowned and work with a huge variety of clients, from accessories to sports to interiors companies.

Main duties

The internship will involve working closely with the creative direction and think tank editors, assisting with research (for example sourcing images and references) as well as helping prepare the Vision reports for production and publishing on the WGSN site.

An opportunity to work alongside the WGSN creative direction team as we create our seasonal ‘Vision’ report for AW1718. Working with future fashion, design, cultural and consumer research, the student can expect to develop their research and analysis skills, as well as gain an insight into the trend forecasting process. The role will also provide valuable experience in working with web content.

This is a great opportunity for a student or graduate interested in working in trend forecasting. We’re looking for someone with a particular eye for future trends as well as a well-rounded interest in fashion, design and global culture. Pattern Cutting Internship at Saloni

We are currently seeking a pattern cutting intern to assist the pattern cutting team in our London office. Showroom Assistant at Osborne and Little

Osborne and Little is one of the world’s leading names in fabric and wallpaper design.

Main duties

The position is based at our King’s Road showroom and would predominantly be based around assisting customers and clients with their interior schemes and pushing forward the sales of Osborne and Little fabric and wallpaper as well as our other brands (Matthew Williamson, Nina Campbell and Lorca), furniture and accessories.

Skills & Experience

Textiles Design Assistant for Childrenswear at Boden

Boden are looking for a full time Textiles Design Assistant in the Childrenswear department.

Main duties

We’re famous for our love of pattern and colour and we’re looking for an outstanding designer to join our in-house graphics team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a degree in fashion textiles, print or illustration – and one to two years’ industry experience in a similar role.

Fun logos are part of our Mini signature style, we’re looking for someone with excellent drawing skills and a good sense of colour who can design logos in a charming, engaging and innovative way. On the commercial side, you should have a good understanding of print and embroidery techniques and fabric types.

Skills & Experience

You’ll be competent in Illustrator, Photoshop and Microsoft Office. As well as being a good designer, you’ll also perform an important administrative role. We’re looking for an organisational whizz who can keep our files and logo boards in ship shape order. An excellent communicator, you’ll liaise with suppliers, comment on art work submissions and be able to complete 101 other tasks in the course of your duties.
