WSA Fashion Design student Rhian Owen selected for #Enliven15 Fashion Competition

Year 2 WSA Fashion Design student Rhian Owen is one of six designers to be selected for this years #Enliven15 Fashion upcycle project and competition. Through the project Rhian has worked with local charity shop CLIC Sargent to develop clothing cast-offs into an upcycled fashion design.

All #Enliven15 outfits will be exhibited at the Summer Open Studios event in Eastleigh this weekend. Members of the public will be able to view the upcycled fashion designs and meet the designers as well as look around The Sorting Office which is home to 16 professional artists and designer-makers.

The upcycled fashion designs will also be entered into a competition judged by the award-winning designer Mia Nisbet. The winner will receive a career development bursary as well as further exhibition opportunities and other prizes.

Trend Internship at Bureaux Design

Bureaux is a creative design studio based in East London, specialising in Branding, Communications and Fashion.

You will be working alongside our current team to support them in researching new trends, key looks, new innovations, shapes, silhouettes, fabric, colour, print and pattern. An understanding of catwalk market intel, market place trends and producing creative mood boards. Conducting directional shopping trend research and shop reports. Helping with the design and development of range building.

We are looking for a bright & talented intern to join us for a 1-3 month design Internship to support the studio on creative design and trend projects.
The internship will offer the student an insight in working in a busy and fast paced design studio with a varied client base.

Ideally this would suit a graduate with knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and a good understanding of design and trends.

Desired Skills & Experience:
– Appropriate Professional Degree/Course in Fashion Design/Fashion Marketing or Trend
– Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite Illustrator, Photoshop & Indesign
– Cad skills
– Exciting portfolio, demonstrating great ideas, keen eye for design and attention to detail
– Strong Fashion awareness

Design Assistant Position at YMC

DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a highly passionate design graduate to assist the womenswear designer on a full-time basis. The role will require a highly organized individual with a great passion for the brand and an eagerness to learn and develop their creative Das well as their professional skills.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a highly talented and organized individual to support the womenswear designer. The candidate will be responsible for:
• Work closely with womenswear designer.
• Attend fabric shows with the womenswear designer.
• Enquire about all fabrics.
• Generate style codes and page numbers for the season.
• Make season folders and update these as info changes.
• Create spec sheets for every individual style.
• Research finishing’s and trims for the garments.
• Create linesheets for the season. This includes spec drawings of all garments.
• Communicate with all factories. This includes sending them spec sheets, artwork and fit comments.
• Keep a tight eye on deadlines and chase factories or other departments if things are late.
• Get all info about garments from factories including trims, binding and lining quality.
• Set up new collection in PDM.
• Generate season swatchbook for QA.
• Assist with organizing photoshoots.
• Take pictures of every garment, including detail shots for internal purposes.
• Measure all garments.
• Attend fit meetings with QA and make a note of all changes.
• Organize work space and file everything properly so other departments have easy access to info.
• Work closely with other departments of the business when needed.

REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for a cultured individual with the drive to achieve, strong communication skills, an obsessive attention to detail, a hands on approach and humility to work in a small team where passion is key. The candidate must have the following attributes:
• Extremely organised.
• Fluent in English.
• High competency in Illustrator, Photoshop and Excel is a must.

Two Textile Designer Posts at Stephen Walters & Sons Ltd

Stephen Walters are silk weavers designing and producing fabric for international luxury brands. They have built their reputation as design leaders working exclusively with fashion houses across the world.

They are recruiting for the following two positions to join their highly regarded design team:

  • Textile Designer to work within their technical design team producing designs using their jacquard software.
  • Textile Designer to work within their creative design team producing CAD representations of their jacquard designs.

The design work is extremely varied and covers a broad range of fabrics from men’s neckwear to contemporary womenswear and furnishings.

They are looking for two designers with good artistic ability and drawing skills, a sensitivity to colour, a diversity of styles and attention to detail. An understanding of CAD systems would be beneficial but not essential, as full training will be given to the successful applicant.

Their design team is currently made up of trained designers from a variety of disciplines such as print, surface pattern and weave. They would like to hear from anyone who is qualified in similar areas.

Graduate Knitwear Development Internship at Roland Mouret

London based, Fashion label Roland Mouret are offering a year, paid Knitwear Development Internship for graduates.

We are looking for a vibrant, ready to hit the ground running, passionate knitwear graduate to join our Collection Development team.

General daily task consist of; working closely with the knitwear collection development team assisting with CAD work, you will need excellent skills in Adobes software (Illustrator and Photoshop) , general errands, researching knits/trims, booking couriers, keeping the collection development office clean and tidy, general filing and upkeep of in-house knit library/archive.

It would be desirable for you to have worked in a fast based fashion environment before. Specifically in knitwear.

Working closely with the knitwear collection development team you will get to experience how a fast – paced luxury fashion house runs. You will get to work on many projects including the main line and pre collection.
